Time for an independent future: AEB remains under municipal ownership

After an extensive and careful sales process, the Amsterdam municipal executive has decided to retain ownership of the Afval Energie Bedrijf (AEB). In the end, no acceptable bid for AEB was received. This means that AEB will remain under municipal ownership for at least the next ten years. This decision marks the end of years of uncertainty for AEB. The company can now look ahead and build toward an independent future!

The outcome of this process provides the long-term clarity and stability that AEB needs to function effectively. Due to the sales processes of recent years, AEB has been unable to sufficiently focus on its internal development. Now, we have the opportunity to further build a strong and sustainable company. We will do this together with our dedicated employees and partners. Our focus will be on further professionalizing our organization and strengthening our role in the circular economy. We look forward to the coming years with confidence and are ready to tackle the challenges ahead.

CEO Wim van Lieshout will take on the role of quartermaster within the company, working on a plan to ensure AEB maintains a competitive market position, with the municipality as its shareholder. He will do this in close consultation with the municipality and the Supervisory Board.
